The TaylorMade M6 series and the Ping G410 were released at about the same time.
These two lines of clubs will appeal to almost the same golfer, and some will find that their performance is similar as well.
There are, however, some differences between the M6 and the G410 that are worth noting.
If you happen to have your club selection narrowed down to these two brands, we will take a quick look at the irons, drivers, hybrids, and fairways so you will know what you are dealing with.
TaylorMade M6 vs. Ping G410 (Differences, Benefits)
TaylorMade M6: Overview & Benefits
The M6 from TaylorMade consists of an entire line of golf clubs, including drivers, irons, woods, and hybrids.
The M6 are built for lots of speed and distance, and you will see an improvement with the feel and sound these clubs have as well.
1. Drivers
The TaylorMade M6 driver has the same Speed Pocket technology that TaylorMade has been perfecting for years.
Perhaps the biggest improvement with the M6 from the M4 model is the speed injected twist face.
The speed injection means each clubhead that leaves the warehouse is as close to the legal limit as it possibly can be.
TaylorMade tests each clubhead, and then they will inject the face if it needs some extra speed and performance.
The M6 drivers have adjustable lofts on the hosel, and they will help you feel as though you have the exact fit you need before swinging the club.
People love the distance this driver provides, and they can hit the ball very straight as well.
One of the only downsides to the M6 driver is that it is not very workable.
If you like to hit a lot of draws, fades, and low- or high-lofted shots, it can be a little hard to get done.
2. Irons
The M6 irons will still feature lots of the same speed technology you find in the M6 driver.
The biggest improvement with these irons from the M4 is the distance.
There is no question that the M6 irons are long.
Of course, these clubs do have adjusted lofts, so you are playing with a pitching wedge that has the same loft a nine iron used to have.
However, most people don’t seem to mind when they see their results.
The twist face technology helps to make sure players get a very solid and stable hit and that they can miss the center a little but still hit it straight.
The top down look on an M6 is slightly thick, and these are certainly considered a game improvement iron.
With a cavity back design, they still have good feel for a forgiving golf club.
3. Woods/Hybrids
The M6 has an option for woods and hybrids as well.
The hybrids are very forgiving and easy to hit out of the rough.
People find they can get a lot of distance from the M6 hybrids, and that is partly what makes them one of the best-selling hybrids out there.
Since these clubs are built for mid- to high-handicappers, you can get hybrids down to the six iron level if you wish.
It is certain you will get a lot of flexibility in your set makeup if you are going to go with the M6 lineup of clubs.
Ping G410: Overview & Benefits
Ping does not release clubs quite as often as TaylorMade does.
In fact, since the release of the TaylorMade M6, they have already released another club, the TaylorMade SIM Max.
Ping tends to put out a new line every two years or so.
Some people find this to be a positive, and others consider it a negative.
1. Drivers
The Ping G410 driver comes in a few different models.
They are the G410 Plus, the SFT, and the LST.
Each of these models is built to suit a different player type.
The standard model is the G410 Plus which is designed to work for a golfer who is a high handicapper all the way down to a scratch golfer.
If you are a Ping person, there is no player’s driver at the moment, but you can simply set the G410 Plus to work for your golf game.
2. Irons
The G410 irons are considered to be a game improvement iron, but like all golf clubs Ping puts on the market, they have great feel.
There is no question that Ping knows how to make a club that feels great.
Even for a cavity back iron, Ping has the G410 feeling as though they are forged.
They have a better sound and less vibration at impact than the G400 had last year.
Ping irons are known for having a slightly thinner top down look when compared to other similar brands.
If you like to work the golf ball and hit a fade or a draw, you can do so with the G410.
Sometimes Ping irons can be a little less forgiving than other brands, but the G410s do a great job of helping a player control the golf ball.
3. Woods/Hybrids
The G410 fairway woods are very popular, and golfers are finding great success with them.
For some reason, the G410 hybrids are not quite as popular.
They have a unique look to them, and they don’t blend with the iron set quite as well as some hoped they would.
The fairway woods are long, straight, and forgiving as well.
One of the things we have always liked about the G410 fairway woods (and Ping woods in general) is that they are a bit thinner and low profile.
This look helps them to have a cleaner impact, and they even do okay out of a low rough as well.
The fairway woods from the Ping G410 set come in the Plus, LST, and SFT models as well.
If you end up choosing a driver that fits your game, you can get the matching fairway woods to have some extra consistency in the set.
Comparison of TaylorMade M6 and Ping G410
Now that you have a general understanding of the technology and benefits of the Ping G410 and the M6, it is time to compare them.
We took some of the most important categories players should look into when deciding on golf clubs and compared these two sets of clubs.
It is hard to say that one set is better than the other as an all-around club.
However, there are certain things that will set them apart and allow you to determine if the Ping G410 or the TaylorMade M6 are the proper clubs for you.
1. Feel
Golf manufacturers are known for certain things.
TaylorMade is known for its speed and technology.
They are very innovative when it comes to their clubs, and they do everything they can to get players the highest ball speeds imaginable.
Ping Golf Company is known for feel and a bit more of a classic design.
You may think that Ping stands out and looks different from other brands, and they are indeed very specific about their styling.
Most of the time, even if clubs were not labeled, you would be able to guess that you are hitting with a Ping.
Ping golf clubs have a specific look and feel that Ping does not plan on changing anytime soon.
The Ping clubs have a very smooth feel off the club face.
When you hit these clubs solidly, there is not much that feels as good.
When you miss them slightly, they will let you know.
The difference between this and the TaylorMade is that the TaylorMade has been designed to eliminate the miss-hit.
If you miss the center of the club face, the ball will land a few yards shorter, but chances are you won’t even feel like it was that bad of a hit.
The club does quite a bit of correcting for you, and most shots feel the same.
However, you will miss out on that pure shot feeling when you hit it perfectly in the center.
If you are a feel player who relies on the feedback that the iron or driver gives you, then the Ping is the club for you.
2. Loft
Both the Ping G410 and the TaylorMade M6 are considered distance irons that will have lower lofts.
These clubs are both going to fly a long way, but they also have low center of gravity.
The low center of gravity is going to help them get the ball up in the air, even with the lower lofts.
Most people do not complain about being able to get the ball to stop on the green with the irons or the hybrids on these sets.
The drivers are going to have an adjustable loft, so you can set them to work for whatever your desired shot preference is.
3. Distance
The G410 and the M6 are designed to be game improvement golf clubs, which means they will also have great distance technology.
The difference between the clubs and the distances they can get will be minimal, but the TaylorMade M6 will most likely win.
The ball speeds the M6 offer throughout the set are going to be a little higher than those of the G410.
One club where there is very little difference in the attainable distances is the driver.
The M6 driver and the G410 driver tend to go about the same length.
They do however, feel a little different.
The G410 Plus is a bit easier to dial in for your individual swing flaws and strengths.
4. Forgiveness
As we mentioned, the TaylorMade M6 Twist Face Technology really helps those golfers who tend to miss the center of the club face at times.
The M6 will make it so that a miss hit which may have cost you ten yards in the past may only cost a yard or two now.
Certainly, this is a great benefit and one that should be considered if you look for pure forgiveness from your clubs.
The G410 irons are a little less forgiving than the M6, but they are more workable as well.
If you are a player with a lower handicap but wants some forgiveness and a little distance, the G410 is a better choice.
The M6 will be easy to hit, but they lose a little bit of their feel because of how forgiving they can be.
5. Price
The Ping golf clubs take a long time to drop in price.
There are a few theories as to why this is.
For starters, Ping is known for using very high-quality materials and components in their clubs, and they don’t allow any discounts on them.
In fact, if a manufacturer gets caught trying to sell a Ping for less than the price at which Ping offers it, they will lose their contract.
Ping cares very much about the price and the value of their product, and they want to do everything they can to not cheapen it.
The M6, on the other hand, has dropped in price considerably since they were first released.
When the SIM Max irons, drivers, and woods came out, TaylorMade dropped the pricing on the M6.
Although you will pay a bit more for the Ping than the M6, the value will probably hold up a bit better.
TaylorMade clubs that are a few years old do not always sell for all that much.
Chances are TaylorMade will have already released two or three new versions and significantly discounted the pricing on their leftover sets.
Most people don’t purchase golf clubs with the intention of selling them.
Most plan to play with them for many years.
However, if you know you are a person who is going to sell your golf clubs within the next few years, you may want to consider purchasing the Pings.
6. Handicap
Golfers will often base the set of clubs they are purchasing on their handicap.
Mid-handicap golfers tend to stick with one type of club while high-handicappers want another.
We can tell you that the M6 was built for the mid- to high-handicappers and beginners.
The G410 is built for a slightly wider range.
If your handicap is a bit lower, but you don’t enjoy playing with a blade, you can absolutely use the G410 irons.
The fairway woods and driver from Ping are also built to accommodate almost any handicap level.
With the proper settings and shaft, this is a great club to grow with your game.
Conclusion
Hopefully, you now have a better understanding of the differences between the G410 and the M6 golf clubs.
They are both great sets of clubs which will probably be a tremendous improvement from the clubs you are currently playing.
Overall, we recommend that the lower your handicap is, the more you gravitate towards the Ping G410 set.
If your handicap is higher or you are new to the game, and you want all the distance you can get, the M6 is a perfect choice.
Now is a great time to get both the G410 and the M6 as they have been on the market long enough to get a great deal and some unbelievable results.
