Who Makes Western Golf Carts? (Everything To Know)

There are several golf cart manufacturers that are very well known.

The most common golf carts that you see used in residential or golf settings are going to be the EZGO, Yamaha, and the Club Car.

Through the years, there have been plenty of other manufacturers, and although some of them may not still be around, the carts are.

Golf carts last a very long time, and therefore, you can still find carts made by Western, located all over the United States.

If you have a Western golf cart or are looking to add one to your collection of carts, then we have some helpful information which could make things easier for you.

Who Makes Western Golf Carts?

Western golf carts were made by Western Golf Cart Manufacturing in Hot Springs, California.

The Western Carts have been around for many years, and they are most well known for their custom accessories and design.

Western Golf Carts was initially founded in 1981, and they are known for the Lido golf carts as well.

The Western golf carts originally had about eight models, and each built on the EZGO Chassis.

For a long time, Western was producing about 2000 golf carts per year.

The carts were much more customized than the other models at the time, and therefore, you would pay quite a bit more for the Western than other similar carts.

Western was one of the early leaders in the electric golf cart design.

The carts have a unique look to them, and they sit relatively low to the ground.

They are better for golf and riding around residential areas than for off-roading adventures.

Can You Purchase Refurbished Westerns?

With how popular these Western golf carts were and how many unique characteristics they had, there is still quite a market for used golf carts.

Some of the standard options you would see on a Western cart would be a stereo system and a woodgrain dash.

The carts had a very classic and upscale look to them, much different than the modern EZGO or Club Car design.

The great thing about golf carts is that they can very easily be refurbished, fixed up, and changed to suit the needs of a modern golfer.

This is why many people purchase golf carts that are twenty or thirty years old.

Especially with an electric model where you can simply replace the batteries, there is really no reason to trash a golf cart.

If you are looking at used golf carts in your area, chances are you may come across a Western.

With all of the money, fame, and fortune that took place in California, Western golf carts that were custom-built got quite a bit of attention.

Celebrities and sports stars were picking up these carts to drive around town.

They wanted the carts to be custom-built to their needs and specifications.

Lido paired up with Western to put out some very unique options which had all of the top-of-the-line features at the time.

These carts are still highly sought after as people like to add modern-day customizations to them.

Who Makes the Most Golf Carts in the US?

A spotlight illuminates a bright, gold "WHO?" on a dark background filled with "WHAT?", "WHERE?", "WHEN?", "HOW?", and "WHY?"

Most golfers and golf cart owners will be faced with three choices when they shop for a new cart.

The Yamaha, EZGO, and Club Car seem to be the most popular options on the market.

If you have ever wondered which is the top of the big three, you are in the right place.

Here are the largest golf cart manufacturers in the US.

1. Textron

At the top of the list is Textron.

They own several brands, but one of the biggest is EZGO.

This is not surprising to us as we have seen people start to gravitate more and more towards the EZGO in the last few years.

The carts are fairly priced, offer lots of features and options, and they last a really long time.

The Textron company shows earnings of more than 13 billion dollars.

2. Polaris Industries

Polaris golf carts are not the typical carts you will see around your neighborhood.

They do make a lot of ATVs and off-road type golf carts.

The majority of their business is the off-road vehicles, and that is why they end up with such high earnings.

3. Yamaha Motor Corporation

The Yamaha Motor Corporation manufactures the Yamaha Golf Carts.

They make both electric and gas-powered models, and they are located in Marietta, Georgia.

Yamaha makes many motors and engines, and that is what they are most well known for.

4. Club Car

If you have played golf at a private country club lately, chances are you rode in a Club Car.

Club Car golf carts have been around since 1958, and they make very smooth riding, easy-to-operate golf carts.

Club Car is known for having a higher quality cart with a very smooth ride.

They are also known for being priced a bit higher than products of other golf cart manufacturers.

Although there are many other golf cart companies out there, they are much smaller in scale.

This usually means that, unless they are a local company, it can be hard to find one in your area.

Sometimes it is difficult to find a golf cart dealer in your area at all.

When you look for these unique carts, your search will only get more complicated.

Are Used Golf Carts Worth It?

The word Worth highlighted in green, under the heading

Since we mentioned that your best chance of finding a Western or a Lido would be used, it leaves many people asking if used carts are worth it.

IF you can find a used cart in great shape, there are lots of things you can do to customize it and make it your own.

Used carts will save you lots of money over a new cart, and they are not difficult to find.

Most golf cart dealerships will have an inventory of both new and used golf carts to choose from.
