September 8, 2020 by Brittany Olizarowicz Leave a Comment

Golf clubs drivers over green field background. Summer sunset

Golf drivers that help players hit the ball further and straighter are considered game improvement drivers.

These clubs are built to allow the mid to high handicappers the performance they need in their game to take them to the next level.

Game improvement golf clubs can help you get to a lower handicap, or they can help you maintain and have fun on the golf course.

We have put together our top ten best game improvement drivers.

We made sure to include options for both high and low budget golfers.

1. Callaway Golf 2020 Mavrik Driver

Key Features

  • Created using artificial intelligence
  • FS2S titanium clubface
  • Jailbreak technology

At the top of our list is the new Callaway Mavrik Driver.

This club is a brand new release from Callaway, and it has some features that golf has never seen before.

The only downside to this club is the high pricing, but if you are serious about improving your long game, this is a great choice to consider.

The very successful jailbreak bars that have been featured on the last few releases from Callaway will again be part of the new Mavrik driver.

These bars act like springs at impact and let golfers get an increased jump on their distances.

The most significant change from previous models that you may notice with the Callaway Mavrik is the shape of the clubhead.

The new Cyclone Aero shape is designed to get through the air much easier and give golfers more clubhead speed.

Generally, players who want a game improvement driver will also want some extra speed.

The Mavrik driver has an adjustable head, which is an excellent feature for golfers who are working on their game.

If you find you hit this club best with 11.5 degrees of loft at the moment, you can set it there until you need to move it lower.

Having the ability to change a club does increase the value the club has to offer.

The lightweight carbon crown of the Mavrik will again help to produce a higher moment of inertia and a lower center of gravity.

If you want a mix of distance, stability, and forgiveness, you can get it with the new Mavrik driver.

Pros

  • Cyclone aero shape for more speed
  • Very high MOI
  • FS2S titanium face architecture
  • Lightweight design

Cons

  • High price because it is a new release

2. Tour Edge Golf Hot Launch 4 Driver

No products found.

Key Features

  • Anti slice
  • Low pricing
  • High moment of inertia

Since our first option for the best game improvement driver was a bit high priced, we thought it would be good to mention the Tour Edge model.

The Tour Edge is a very forgiving design which still allows for plenty of distance.

This club is priced considerably lower than most of the other golf drivers on the market, and it helps golfers who are having trouble with slicing.

The anti-slice technology means the clubface is going to be slightly closed as you come into impact.

For those golfers who struggle to release the ball at times, this is very helpful.

The Tour Edge also features a deep cup face design which allows for some off-center hits.

As much as we would all love to hit the ball directly in the center of the clubface, it is not always a reality.

The deep cup face allows you those mis-hits but still get plenty of distance.

If you have played with a Tour Edge driver in the past, you may have felt as though the jump off the clubface is not that strong.

This new HL4 has a 12% increase in MOI, and it has made a significant difference in performance.

Overall, this is a great driver for golfers who don’t want to spend much but need a new driver.

Pros

  • Low in price
  • Higher MOI
  • Forgiving

Cons

  • Not as much ball speed as leading manufacturers

3. TaylorMade 2017 M2 Men’s Driver 460cc

TaylorMade 2017 M2 Driver 460cc
TaylorMade 2017 M2 Driver 460cc
  • Maybe the biggest surprise of the 2016 golf season was the sheer dominance of TaylorMadeaTMs M2 driver. When it was first released, many viewed the M2 as nothing more than the M1aTMs little brother. But as the year progressed it became the most popular driver in golf among touring pros and amateurs alike.
  • That left TaylorMade with a significant challenge in making the updated M2 driver even better, but itaTMs a challenge that has been accomplished, albeit in multiple ways.
  • With the M2 driver comes the introduction of Geocoustic Technology, as TaylorMade combined innovative shaping to increase the overall MOI with improved acoustic engineering that creates better sound and feel at impact.
  • By using more carbon in the design, 25 grams of weight was freed up to create a larger overall footprint for more forgiveness and a CG placement thataTMs even lower and deeper than it was in the original M2, which creates high launch, low spin, and enhanced stability at impact.
  • The Speed Pocket on the updated M2 has also been redesigned and is now three times more flexible than its predecessor, which is creating faster ball speeds.

Key Features

  • Titanium body
  • Low center of gravity
  • Carbon crown

The TaylorMade M2 Driver is not the newest on the market, but it is still very high performing.

The carbon crown on the M2 is a six-layer design which makes the club much lower.

The M2 is made with geocoustic technology that allows much more forgiveness and better sound and feel.

The M2 was the start of the technology that has led to the new TaylorMade Sim Max design.

It has a lot of the speed pocket features that will help players who are not getting the amount of distance they want and need out of their drives.

The loft on the M2 is adjustable, so you can set it to what you need as your game starts to improve.

Pros

  • Fair pricing
  • Lots of performance for many years
  • Lightweight design

Cons

  • Not the latest release

Key Features

  • CNC milled face
  • Low center of gravity
  • Streamlined shape

The Cobra Golf Speedzone driver is an improvement upon the Speedback driver of last year.

The Speedback driver was a trendy design that had players feeling like they could get lots of distance and forgiveness at the same time.

The carbon wrap crown makes the Cobra Speedzone a very lightweight driver for golfers who are lacking clubhead speed.

One of our favorite things about the Cobra Golf drivers is that they are highly adjustable.

For the golfers who are working on improving their game, the driver can adjust and work for you.

Overall, Cobra has been known for making golf clubs for high handicap players, but many low handicappers have been switching to this club as well.

Another great thing about the Speedzone driver is that it tends to be more reasonably priced than other drivers.

You can get this club in a yellow or a white finish.

This Speedzone driver has more ball speed than any other driver Cobra has ever released.

Pros

  • Very high ball speeds
  • Adjustable
  • Lightweight
  • Aerodynamic

Cons

  • Can be hard to find shaft options you need

5. TaylorMade M6 Driver (460cc)

TaylorMade M6 Driver (460cc)
TaylorMade M6 Driver (460cc)
  • The TaylorMade M6 driver is designed with a new Speed Injection process to achieve new distance with maximum forgiveness.
  • Every club head is individually tested and then goes through the Speed Injection process where a tuning resin is injected through two ports on the face to achieve performance at or near the legal limit of COR.
  • Twist Face Technology is back for 2019, utilizing a revolutionary face curvature designed to reduce side spin and correct the face angle on off-center hits to deliver straighter shots off the tee.
  • Sleek, aerodynamic shaping is designed to increase clubhead speed along with a new carbon sole design that features 54% more carbon material and an Inertia Generator that stores 46 grams of weight low and back for maximum forgiveness.
  • The more flexible Hammerhead 2.0 slot works with the Speed Injected Twist Face to produce a larger sweet spot and protect ball speed on off-center contact.

Key Features

  • Speed injected
  • Adjustable
  • Speed pocket technology

The TaylorMade M6 Driver is a speed injected clubhead that has recently dropped in price.

If you want a top-of-the-line game-improvement driver, the M6 is a great choice.

Probably the most critical feature of the M6 driver is the extra ball speed.

This is one of the fastest drivers on the market.

The speed injected face on the M6 makes sure each driver gets as close as possible to the legal limit before it is released to the market.

If you have ever wondered if your driver is as good as the golfer next to you, the M6 technology makes sure it is.

The Twist Face technology allows for you to have lots for forgiveness on off-center hits.

Twist Face technology anticipates the areas golfers tend to miss the ball most frequently, and it allows for added help in those areas.

If you need some more help with a slice, the M6 is also available in a draw version.

Pros

  • Twist face technology
  • Speed injected face
  • Adjustability

Cons

  • Not as long as the new SIM Max

Key Features

  • Jailbreak technology
  • Speed step technology
  • Composite crown

The Callaway Rogue driver was a great release that focused on easy distance and tons of forgiveness.

Golfers have found that the jailbreak technology in the Rogue driver has helped them increase their distance significantly.

The Rogue driver combines the jailbreak technology with the X Face VFT Technology.

These two together make for a driver with a very high amount of clubhead speed.

Although the Rogue driver is the same 460cc size most golf drivers are, the clubhead looks large.

The extra size of the clubhead gives the higher handicapper a bit more confidence when they stand over the golf ball.

Callaway worked with Boeing to produce this driver so it would be incredibly aerodynamic.

If there is a company out there that knows about the speed of objects as they fly through the air, it would undoubtedly be Boeing.

Pros

  • Jailbreak technology
  • Lots of ball speed
  • The aerodynamic and large clubhead

Cons

  • The sound is not as highly rated as other golf drivers

Key Features

  • Fixed weight technology
  • Kevlar and carbon fiber crown
  • Available in three lofts

The Wilson Staff Men’s D7 Driver is an excellent option if you need a lightweight and simplistic design in your driver.

The D7 does not have any adjustability.

As much as we love adjustability in a golf club, there are times when it can be a disadvantage.

Having an adjustable hosel and weights on a club makes it much heavier.

For golfers who lack clubhead speed, you want the lightest golf driver you can find.

The lighter the club, the easier it is to hit it further.

With the Wilson D7, the head weight is only 192 grams.

This will give golfers a lot more ability to swing it faster.

The crown of the D7 is made with Kevlar and woven carbon fiber.

This combination of materials has helped to give the driver an excellent feel and sound as well.

People are often surprised they are hitting a Wilson when they hit this club for the first time.

If you are a golfer who struggles with the launch on your drives, there is a 13-degree option which helps the ball launch relatively high.

With the low center of gravity and a very large sweet spot, the D7 makes for a great game improvement golf club.

Pros

  • Multi-material lightweight crown
  • Great sound and feel
  • High launching

Cons

  • No adjustability to save weight

8. Cleveland Golf Launcher Turbo Driver

Key Features

  • Turbocharged cup face
  • HiBore crown
  • Very lightweight hosel

The Cleveland Golf Launcher Turbo driver is another new release that is not adjustable.

The adjustability is taken away to save some weight in the clubhead.

This extra weight will help golfers who struggle to get the distance they need from their shots.

The main reason we like the Cleveland Golf Launcher Turbo is forgiveness and simplicity.

This is a very straightforward driver with a classic Cleveland look.

Without having to worry about adjusting the loft or the angle of the clubface, you can step up to the tee with confidence.

The Turbo Launcher has a very high performing golf shaft by Miyazaki.

This shaft was explicitly designed for use in the Launcher Turbo golf club.

The shaft helps add to the overall lightweight features of the club.

As far as forgiveness is concerned, the center of gravity is very low and in the center.

This will help golfers who tend to miss the center of the clubface, and it will also increase the launch.

Pros

  • Easy to hit
  • High launching
  • Fast ball speeds
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Not as long as some other drivers on the market
  • No adjustability

9. Wilson Staff LaunchPad Driver

Key Features

  • Lightweight
  • Offset
  • High ball speeds

The Wilson Staff LaunchPad Driver is one of the newest releases from Wilson.

This is very lightweight, if not the lightest driver on the market.

The lightweight design helps golfers gain some extra ball speed.

You will also notice the size of the clubhead is quite large and allows a lot of room for error.

The LaunchPad is an offset driver, so you notice it can help to decrease the effects of a slice.

This is not an adjustable option, but that is partly what helps make it so lightweight.

If you feel as though you have been losing clubhead speed and accuracy, this is a driver you could use to get some of it back.

We are impressed with the size of the clubhead as well.

It looks much larger than other golf clubs on the market and helps to give players some added confidence as they line up to hit.

If you have been searching for a reasonably priced game improvement driver with plenty of ball speed, this is a great choice to consider.

Pros

  • Very lightweight
  • Plenty of ball speed
  • High launching
  • Fairly priced

Cons

  • Won’t have the same feel as some higher-end drivers

10. TaylorMade SIM MAX Driver

Key Features

  • Adjustability
  • Speed injected technology
  • Very high ball speeds

Last on our list is the TaylorMade SIM Max Driver.

The only reason this club ends up at the bottom of the list is the higher pricing.

When it comes to ball speed, distance, and forgiveness, you are not going to find a better option than the SIM Max.

Just like the TaylorMade M6, the SIM Max clubhead is injected to make sure it gets as close as possible to the legal limit.

The Twist face technology gives a golfer plenty of room to hit a solid shot.

The overall dispersion on this line of drivers is relatively low.

The TaylorMade SIM Max has an adjustable clubhead, so you will be able to grow with the driver as your game improves.

It is essential to keep in mind that the technology in this club is the latest and greatest available.

Although the club is priced a bit high, it is going to have relevant technology for years to come.

Pros

  • Speed injected
  • Twist face
  • Adjustable

Cons

  • Expensive
