Cushman is acclaimed for their high-quality vehicles and a high level of production and design excellence.
This company is one of the oldest alternative vehicle manufacturing companies still on the market and has a reputation that is hard to top.
And their well-known Truckster was one of their most popular vehicles from the early 50s all the way to 2002.

What Year is My Cushman Truckster?
Info on Cushman
Cushman is a unique manufacturer that has existed, in one form or another, since 1903.
They were formed by brothers Everett and Clinton Cushman in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The two brothers assembled various types of farm equipment for farmers in their area and were successful based on their skilled knowledge of mechanics and the high-quality products that they created for their customers.
One of the biggest aspects of this manufacturer is their customization capabilities.
The Cushman brothers would build equipment to spec, which made them very popular with a broad array of different farmers and other individuals.
As a result, they incorporated as Cushman Motor Works in 1913 and started producing their four-stroke Husky engine in 1922 – this engine helped fuel their early success.
For example, Cushman became very well known for the Model 53, a unique scooter that became popular post World War II.
They were also a heavy provider of scooters for the US Armed Forces during that war, producing alternatives to costly automobiles that helped streamline the war effort and make it even more effective for the Allied Forces – Cushman scooters could be found on just about every US military base.
This push helped Cushman become a national company that began providing vehicles to golf courses and other uses.
For example, they were known to produce ice-cream vehicles, various types of delivery carts, and much more.
The excellence of their design has helped them stay in business for years and has made them one of the most well-respected and renowned manufacturers still in operation today.
Cushman also became well known for vehicles like the Highlander, a variety of “jet-age” designs, and a myriad of different electric and gas models of their two-wheeled scooters.
Eventually, they expanded to four-wheel vehicles and mostly concentrate on that type of vehicle to this day.
And they started manufacturing the Cushman Truckster as a high-quality cart that has many potential uses.
The History of the Truckster
The Cushman Truckster was a unique vehicle produced from 1952 to 2002, even after Cushman was bought out.
These carts were renowned for their small and compact nature, making them perfect for light transportation needs.

They have been utilized in a surprising array of different ways and are still available on the used market for reasonable prices that most golf cart owners should find easy to afford.
For example, they were used for personal transportation, ice cream sales, golf cart situations, transportation on personal property, mall security, stadium maintenance, and even by police departments.

The NYPD in particular used the Truckster for patrols.
Identifying the Serial Number Plate
The easiest way to age your Cushman Truckster is to find the serial number plate.
Typically, this plate is imprinted or stamped into the frame of your cart in a spot that makes sense for your needs.
That said, they aren’t always immediately apparent without a little searching.
As a result, it is important for you to understand how to identify this plate or the imprint and the ways you can use it to identify your cart.
Start out by looking near the charge part on electric carts, as this area is one of the most common spots where they imprint a serial or model number.
However, you may also find this number on the side of your frame in plain view.
Make sure to check all of these areas before you start looking in harder-to-reach areas – doing so can save you a lot of time and frustration on this process.
For example, you may find a serial number in some glove compartments or even stamped underneath of your seat.
When seeking out these numbers, make sure that you look not only for the serial number but the model number as well.
The model number is six digits and starts with an “8.”
By contrast, the serial number is either three numbers or four, depending on when the cart was produced.
Understanding the Serial Number
If the serial number is four digits, it was produced after 1970 and the first two digits will tell you the year in which it was produced.
For example, a serial number of 7010 tells you that the cart was made in 1970.
The last two digits are simply filler numbers.
For example, if your model number is something like 89241-8310, you know that your cart was produced in 1983.
The most important numbers here are the first two digits.
However, there are many Trucksters produced by Cushman that don’t have a four-digit serial number.
These numbers are useless for aging your cart without extra help from an outside source.
As a result, you’ll need both numbers and an extensive chart to better understand how to fully age your cart in this way.
Thankfully, we were able to find a large number of serial numbers and model numbers for Trucksters produced over the years and assembled them into an easy-to-read chart.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find all of them – but there are still ways you can use this information to find the age of a cart.
